Styling Suggestions
Finding the right outfit can feel challenging. While some clients prefer to shop for new items, I find that a lot of couples and families are more comfortable in clothing they already own. Dig through your closet and see what catches your attention. What do you reach for the most? Bring a couple of outfit options to your session, and don't stress – we'll work together to curate a selection that looks and feels like you.
When it comes to choosing colors for your session, I suggest sticking to neutrals. But neutral doesn’t mean only black, white, and grey- there are neutrals of every color. Think forest green, tans, browns, blush, and soft blues— for examples, visit my Colors & Textures Pinterest Board.
Work on styling coordinating outfits instead of matching outfits. If one of you decides to wear a pattern, the other should opt. for a solid. Too many competing patterns can make a photo look busy or distracting.
Try playing with textures. Chunky knit sweaters, linen tops, denim overalls all have texture that stand out in a subtle way and add visual interest.

Let’s get candid
If you’re feeling anxious about being photographed and want to feel more in control, consider incorporating meaningful activities or props that reflect your personality and connection as a couple or family. Engaging in something familiar can help ease nerves and create more natural, candid moments. For example, you could bring a football to toss around, visit a favorite coffee shop, or bring your dog along for a relaxed park session. This approach is especially helpful during family sessions, as small children often respond better to play and exploration than structured posing. Activities like rock hunting or interactive moments with parents allow for genuine, candid shots that beautifully capture the spirit of your family.
Trends and styles come and go. Style alone is only halfway. But the stories, connections, and personalities behind the visuals will hold value forever. Do not sweat the small stuff (screaming fits with children, accidents, or wardrobe malfunctions).
Ninety percent documentation, ten percent direction. I want your session to feel more like your life than a photo shoot. Documentation gives you the space to be present and be yourself.
